新嘗祭 - Niinamesai, Japanese Thanks Giving Day -

*English follows Japanese 11 月 23 日。 「日々の勤労により、こうして安定して食を得られることを感謝する日」ということから勤労感謝の日とも言うそうですが、元々は新嘗祭という五穀豊穣を祈り、感謝の意を持って祝う日です。言うなれば、日本版ハロウィン、ボジョレー解禁、そしてサンクスギビングデーといったところでしょうか。 五穀はざっというと、米、麦、栗、豆、黍など。いわゆる五穀米に使われる穀物です。 やたらと農作物には気にする日本ですが、新嘗祭には関心どころか認知度も低いのは不思議ですが、とにかく一部神社や宮内庁関連の他、目立った催しはありません。 かくいう私も、近所の菓子屋で餅菓子を買ってきて、口にするくらい。 紅葉を楽しめる季節、食欲の秋とも申します。 この機会に、改めて今年の収穫を喜び、初物の穀物を味わってみてはいかがでしょうか。 The 23rd of Nov. In Japan, we set today as National Holiday, "Japanese Labor Day" which means "We appreciate to have foods secured by contributing day-to-day labors".   Originally, the day calls "Niinamesai" which is like as Thanksgiving day or (Original) Halloween.   Japanese appreciate and pray the productiveness of five crops, rice ,wheat, chestnuts, beans, and mais. Japanese is getting sensitive regarding agricultural products sometime.   However, not a few Japanese don't know NIinamesai now.   It's weird for me.   However, it is difficult to find
