For more than one year, we looked/are looking tons of decisions and perspective about the best working option - Remote, Hybrid, Office. As a result, there is no “one” perfect way. It should be applied options depending on the industry, organization, role. In this blog, I compiled my idea in the Tech (Software, SaaS, Non-Physical product) company from my experience.
In the Tech (Software, SaaS, Non-Physical product) industry and organization, I also found multiple decisions and perspectives for Remote/Hybrid/Office work environment. Someone consider “Remote make productivity and creativity improved more”, others consider “Office is the best. Remove decreased productivity and/or creativity”. In the other view, New members felt that they could not be included into the existing team, company, organization. I believe all opinion must be true for them.
Last year, I started to work at two organizations. And I considered one organization can be applicable to Remote, but others needs to take Hybrid model. One organization is Online MBA team, another is commercial global company at Tokyo, Japan. Really, I decided to visit office once or twice a week from this year for discussing the following three topics. Because, I consider it difficult to make my expected level of progress with only Remote at the commercial global company at Tokyo, Japan.
- Develop a new strategy and framework, and make them to actionable and trackable task
- Complicated problem - we cannot find out how to resolve it
- Project and/or program looks moving forward, but no outcome or no remarkable progress, but anyone cannot find break through idea
On the other hand, at Online MBA team, we were able to handle above three topics. We did creative work - analyzed situation, and found problem, and created a solution - completely online-Remote. Also, we did productive work - Made up slides, project management - as well. We did not need to meet up in person. All things done well on Zoom.
What are different?
Looking back my experience of starting a new project at Commercial Company and Online MBA, I found three important features if Remote would work or not.

- Tool
- People
- Meeting: Zoom, Teams, Google Meet, most of meeting are done with those tools
- Communication: Slack, Teams, Pronto, most of communication has been moved to those tools from e-mail. And I’m using communication tool more frequent than before COVID.
- Collaboration: Miro, Smartsheet, Trello. Project Management and ideation are driven better.
- Business System: Salesforce, ServiceNow, Dynamics, PowerBI, Tableau
- Authorization: OKTA
- People: Primary speaker, and one or two commentator
- Material
- Note: My Note
- Project is “my” project for each team member. As a result,
- Everyone lean in project proactively
- Everyone tried to make better outcome
- Tried to define and understand team common tools and processes, and leverage them. To do so,
- Tell team members if I can or not
- Ask team member if I cannot
- Other team members tried to resolve issue immediately
Conclusion
- Segregate “Focus transactional work” or “Creative work”, and apply “At Home” or “At Office” as Hybrid
- Form a team with people like as Online MBA member
